when is goodbye the hardest? when it’s planned or when it’s sudden? answers will truly differ but the bottom line is: nonetheless, every goodbye is quite hard.

in life, we encounter people and situations that are sometimes out of our control yet somehow, they can either create an impact in your being or not at all. Then we have our family and friends that’s always been a part of our lives.

But with goodbye, everyone seems to be on the same level. Friends, family, acquaintances, co-workers, classmates, the woman you said hi at the park, the housekeeper you see at work, that rude driver that cut you off at the road - everyone will probably can hear the same word but not everyone of them wont be able to understand it.

one word: goodbye.

goodbye. we say it a lot. oftentimes, its subliminally given. a quick “hello, have a great day” has an underlying goodbye. a kiss and a hug before leaving has an underlying goodbye. “ill see you later” has an underlying goodbye.

the thing though is we are not guaranteed of that “see you later” for we dont know our time here in earth. i think it’s even a leap of faith for you to say “goodbye, ill see you later” because only God knows our existence and time here.

its the impact youve created in them that will make them understand the word goodbye everytime you say it verbally and subliminally. sudden or planned.

when someboday said his goodbye to me, it can be true that the impact ive done to his life might have made a difference but he wasnt able to bring it with him. it was the impact that he created in my life that stayed with me. it was that impact that made me understand his goodbye. it was that impact that made me understand the word goodbye.

when he said goodbye - everyone that he encountered said goodbye. the guy at Sunoco gas station, his friends, his nephews and neices, his basketball teammate, the waiter at Thai restaurant, his wife, his daughters.

everyone said the same word but the impact he created in each of them defined how they understood his goodbye.

when we say ill see you later or goodbye or even a tight hug and a kiss with no words - do it with a purpose. for the impact that you create in them whether big or small will make a difference when the word goodbye comes. not just in you but also in the lives of the people you encounter.
